The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region for CooperVision consists of the country markets of Japan, South Korea, Australia & NZ, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia as well as Asia Distributor markets (including Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam). APAC regional revenues in 2023 will be over USD 500 million, with continuing and exciting growth opportunities.
The Regional Senior Finance Director APAC (RFD) is a key member of the CooperVision APAC Leadership Team (APLT) and Global Finance Leadership Team (FLT), providing strategic financial guidance, commercial drive, decision-making and support to enhance the growth opportunities of the business. The role has direct responsibility for regional planning cycles, financial analysis and insight leading extended teams through the territory. The position retains overall accountability for the Region’s financial accounting, taxation, treasury, internal control, and compliance activities, working collaboratively with the Global Controllership Function
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function and performance.
- Participate, as a strategic partner, in the development of the APAC region’s plans and initiatives.
- Accountable for all monthly and quarterly closing and financial reporting to Corporate.
- Working with the APLT to develop the regions long-range planning and strategy, evaluating options, and making the right decisions on investments and introduction of new programs.
- Maintain the credibility of finance, developing and enhancing global financial reports and trends to deliver insight to senior management in their drive for growth.
- Implement and enforce global policies and procedures of the organization to maintain compliance and improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the APAC region.
- Lead the continual improvement of the planning cycles through the annual budgeting and quarterly forecast processes, using informed analysis and assessments to optimize the plans aligned to the Corporate Business Model expectations.
- Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the APAC region, e.g. evaluation of potential acquisitions, geographic expansion and / or the creation of new entities.
- Joint Leadership in the region in the implementation and deployment of our global systems platform roadmap, including new ERP projects around Oracle in key markets.
- Provide strategic insight and assessment for the ongoing development of the APAC Shared Services function, supporting greater efficiency and effectiveness of the Finance function.
- Identify, implement, and execute appropriate strategies to improve cash management and forecasting, working alongside Global Treasury while ensuring appropriate cash resources to meet operating needs.
- Provide the financial input and oversight, on any Sales, Purchase or Lease contracts into which the APAC region may enter.
- Evolve the APAC Finance structure to provide the best development opportunities for the team, planning for continual improvement and effectiveness of the team.
- Direct the Performance Management Objectives (PMO) and Performance Management Review (PMR) process within the APAC Finance teams, providing individuals with professional and personal development plans,
- Maintain compliance in the areas of corporation tax, GST / VAT, payroll tax and provide the lead for any potential tax audits or enquiries related to the APAC region.
- Accountable for the APAC region’s internal control environment, identifying areas of opportunity to improve education and understanding through the business alongside the Global Controllership. Ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures, internal controls, and the action the timely remediation of any control deficiencies.
- Act as a director, legal representative or statutory auditor of selected APAC country legal entities as required.
- Any other ad hoc projects or initiatives that may be required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High levels of Commercial Acumen and strategic focus that helps the business accelerate growth.
- Demonstrated business partnering experience at Executive levels, building strong working relationships with the APLT, commercial and operations teams to drive the best business decisions and outcomes.
- Strong quantitative orientation, exhibiting a quick grasp of numbers with the strategic ability to interpret for smart decision making.
- Proven technical accounting expertise, including hands on knowledge of U.S Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Sarbannes-Oxley Act (SOX).
- Exceptional at leading, managing and developing regional Finance teams.
- Ability to communicate effectively and powerfully through all levels of the organization being recognized as an all-round leader in the territory.
- Foster interdepartmental links to smooth the functioning of the business on different projects, acting with respect, trust, and integrity.
- Great collaboration and networking skills through a truly global organization
- Experience implementing new ERPs, systems, and tools.
- Direct customer exposure working on deals, contracts and opportunities.
- Direct, hands-on experience of integrating finance activities and resources through acquisition and/or geographic expansion.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Self-motivated with a high level of energy and displaying initiative.
- Continually drive for process and systems improvement.
- Project Management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects or initiatives simultaneously would also be helpful.
- Strong written and spoken English language skills; a second Asian language would be an advantage.
Experience:
- A Finance Director with 15+ years of senior financial operational management experience in the APAC region.
- Experience working in a U.S. multi-national in a dynamic and competitive marketplace.
- Experience of, and comfort working within a matrix-management-style organization.
- Demonstrates working in a highly collaborative organization with a “roll-up your sleeves” culture.
Education:
- Bachelor’s or advanced university degree (e.g. MBA) in business, finance or accounting with demonstrable professional experience in a commercial environment.
- CPA, CA or ACCA professional qualification would be an advantage.
