We are looking for an immediate, full-time, permanent position in EMEA at United Kingdom, Milton Keynes.
- Legal professional responsible for advising the businesses served within a sub-region/country or cluster of countries on legal matters involving a specific area(s) of technology, telecoms, eCommerce, digitalisation iniatiatives or others.
- Responsible for defining and recommending legal strategies and objectives designed to mitigate the organization’s legal exposure in area of responsibility.
- Works with VP Global IT Legal or Head of Legal or IT Legal Director to establish best in class legal proccesses and procedures to assure business objectives are met and legal risks are identified and mitigated.
- Travel will be necessary when required to meet the business needs.
Your tasks:
Join the IT Legal Legal Services team, a division within GBS (the in-house services arm of DHL). As part of the team, you will be responsible for advising the business on IT Legal Contracts and related matters within the region and liaising, where necessary, with legal colleagues in other regions on cross border arrangements. Travel will be necessary when required to meet the business needs.
- The Business is contract driven hence the need to be able to communicate with the business and to negotiate with suppliers, customers and partners alongside the business.
- Need to identify and advise of risks as well as an ability to mitigate risks.
- An ability to manage business expectations and to work to deadlines is required.
- Expected to be pro-active as well as reactive to the business in the services provided.
- Legal Advice and Services:
- Advises business colleagues and stakeholders on legal and related risks associated with DPDHL’s operations in area of responsibility.
- Involved in providing a comprehensive “”one stop shop”” for subject matter legal expertise to one or more DPDHL business units in area of responsibility.
- Review legal analyses and technical reports. Make recommendations to senior management on how to respond to legal issues or proposed changes in laws and regulations.
- Review and approve legal contracts, letters of agreement, and other documents covering a wide range of technology telecoms, e-commerce transactions and digitalisation initiatives to protect the business interests of the company.
- Advises business on legal trends and developing areas of law.
- Designs and implements legal risk mitigation strategies in own area of responsibility.
- Works with supervisor to manage all aspects of internal and external legal spend in area of responsibility.
- Customers & Stakeholders
- Responsible for assuring organization’s legal interests are best represented and protected in customer, vendor and third party contracts; active participant in negotiating such contracts in area of responsibility.
- Responsible for defending the organization’s legal interests in litigation and claims in area of responsibility which may include external legal instruction and spend in sub-region with highest level responsibility.
- Departmental Support and Growth
- An integral member of the GBS IT Legal Services Global team.
- Attend various team meetings, know-how and training sessions and conferences.
- As part of shared legal services, support the needs of other Business Units in the region as workload permits to assist the overall Legal Service line.
- Liaise closely and where needed, with any legal counsels in the Legal Services Department and other experts and corporate centre leads.
- Process
- Required to assist in implementing and managing various processes, including ensuring implementation of releavnt Group Contract Approval Guidelines, Uniform Legal Procurement Standards, Information Security, Data Protection evaluation and implementation where applicable within ITS and DPDHL..
- Finance & Projects
- Assist in the design and delivery of legal training courses on legal topics relevant to the business.
- Assist with budget preparation for legal function in area of responsibility.
- Supervisor feedback to legal management board on participation and contribution
- Audit of business processes and systems.
- People Management
- Responsible for the management and developmental needs of team members assigned to the Role, reporting immediately in respect of any major issues which arise, as well as providing a regular report of all ongoing activities to line manager.
- Proven subject matter expert with significant experience in area of responsibility
- May manage one or more members of legal team providing services in area of responsibility
- Participates in attracting, recruiting, managing others and support staff
- Works co-operatively with others to achieve targets of the team.
- Solid understanding of DPDHL’s business operations; goals and strategies in area of responsibility
- Commercial, pragmatic and decisive in approach.
- Self confident with an ability to work autonomously, under pressure whilst managing priorities efficiently.
- Hardworking, detail-oriented and well-organized to engage and interact with their team members
- Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Legal analytical skills, strategic thinking and ability to negotiate and settle transactions and disputes.

- Education: University law degree
- Professional law qualifications – Law Degree and Admitted/Qualified Attorney or Advocate
- Minimum of 5-7 years Post Qualification Experience of legal practice either within commercial law firm or in house legal department; excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Suitable level of experience working as a commercial lawyer in practice (at least 2 years minimum)
- Language Requirements: English (Excellent command written and spoken).
