This is an exciting new role for an individual looking to develop their strategic senior leadership skills further. Working in a dynamic and multi-disciplined directorate, the post holder will provide leadership and exposure to senior teams across the GLA.

  • Manage, coach and support direct reports effectively – actively promoting learning and development, and wellbeing, across the virtual team. Develop and embed an inclusive culture, including a strong focus on EDI, and a commitment to delivery.
  • Support with the management of the Directorate Leadership team (DLT) in developing a strong connection with the leadership team and agreeing shared strategic goals and operational goals. This will include gaining consensus through the DLT r group, including providing appropriate challenge where necessary. Track objectives for each unit and provide governance to support the work of the DLT.
  • Develop and lead the development and execution of the directorate improvement plan, ensuring there is a particular emphasis on EDI.
  • Develop and lead a programme of work for CR&BI and its response as a directorate, for other key strategic processes, including (but not restricted to) the Mayoral manifesto, the GLA budget and spending reviews, ensuring the directorate is responding to requests appropriately.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership to the business – ensuring it continues to provide effective people, finance and coordination support to the ED and DLT; and identifying opportunities to strengthen and coordinate finance and people operations more widely across CR&BI. This will include the design and implementation of new processes and ways of working. It will also include providing bandwidth for the ED by coordinating tasks.
  • Provide secretariat for, and manage, the new Enabling Services and Resourcing Committee, including strategic agenda planning, preparing annotated Chair’s agenda and action tracking.
  • Represent the ED at meetings if required, and offer support with briefings and coordination of briefings. Support the ED to ensure that DLT meetings are structured around the directorate improvement plan.
  • Manage staff and resources allocated to the job in accordance with the GLA’s policies and code of ethic and standards, including health and safety.
  • Realise the benefits of London’s diversity by promoting and enabling equality of opportunities and promoting the diverse needs and aspirations of London’s communities.
  • Realise the benefits of a flexible approach to work in undertaking the duties and responsibilities of this job; and participating in multi-disciplinary, cross-departmental and cross-organisational groups and project teams.
  • Management and leadership – developing high-performing teams, coaching and supporting individuals, and promoting a culture based on EDI.
  • Programme and project management – able to manage a broad portfolio, drive progress, manage risks and monitor delivery. Highly organised, with an attention to detail and a commitment to getting things done. Able to work at pace.
  • Commitment to driving EDI through an organisation.
  • Experience of communicating effectively internally using a range of communication vehicles.
  • Strategic thinking – able to see the links between different programmes and policy areas, to identify opportunities to work across silos, and to understand and work effectively within the wider political, social and economic context.
