Indorama Integrated Oxides & Derivatives is looking for a dynamic individual as a Sr. Process Safety Manager for our global EHS organization, based in The Woodlands, Texas. The Process Safety organization has a direct report to the Process Safety function, therefore this position has direct reports in the different regions where IOD operates, like North America, South America, EMEA and APAC. A total of 7 direct reports to this position represents the current PSM structure.
The primary responsibility is to lead the global Process Safety team in providing shared services across the division/segment, while also providing expert level support to Indorama Ventures Integrated Oxides and Derivatives’ facilities and ensuring corporate governance for the segment’s Process Safety programs and procedures. This position will interface with multi-layers of technical experts and management (including senior leaders); influential skills are essential. Good written and verbal communication skills are crucial for this position. The job holder will report to the Director of EHS.
- Leadership skills and experience are required to lead / manage the Process Safety team. This will involve setting goals, assigning responsibilities / accountabilities, managing the team’s performance, and coordinating work plans / schedules – including establishing priorities.
- Deliver Process Safety support and services to Indorama Ventures Integrated Oxides and Derivatives’ facilities as needed on a priority basis. The Manager will be expected to consult with facility leaders to develop an annual Support Plan then manage the team’s work plans and schedule to deliver against this Plan.
- As needed, lead, and participate in facility Process Safety audits.
- Lead, develop and support global policies, procedures, strategies, and programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and directives.
- Oversight of the Process Safety metrics to monitor Process Safety performance.
- Ensure Process Safety training programs are in place, toolkits are available and implemented throughout the organization to support process safety management.
- Assist global sites with the assessment, mitigation, and prioritization of process safety risks.
- Participate in the development of annual budgets and monitor / control costs within budget.
- Select and manage third party process safety resources as needed.
- Represent Indorama Ventures Oxides and Derivatives on industry process safety work groups.
- Interface with regulatory agencies and participate in standards development. Monitor new or changing regulations related to Process Safety; analyze the potential impact to the organization and assist regions and sites with developing strategies for implementation.
- Assist in the capital project development, review and execution process via team participation, technical review, and risk assessment.
- Participate in and/or lead incident investigations that warrant corporate involvement based on severity or potential severity.
- Interact with the holding company to address PSM topics of interest from both parties.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related field with at least 15 years of experience in Process Safety in the chemical and/or petrochemical industry.
- At least three years of Process Safety experience at a divisional or corporate level strongly preferred.
- Team leadership experience required.
- Knowledge of and experience in Process Hazard Analysis methodologies.
- Understand the concept of Risk Based Process Safety.
- Experience in incident investigation, including root cause analysis methodologies.
- Ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- Experience with cultural differences between regions and flexibility to interact accordingly.
- Familiar with risk identification and minimization techniques.
- Familiar with failure mechanisms, protection systems and their design.
- Knowledge of regulations, guidelines, and legislation (e.g., OSHA / EPA).
- Familiarity with Responsible Care®, ISO and other Management System approaches.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
- Communication skills in Spanish and/or Portuguese is a differential.
- Cultural awareness and a strong belief and conviction for Process Safety are necessary.
- Approximately 25-40% travel primarily in the Gulf Coast area with occasional international travel.
