This position will establish and further develop enterprise-wide shared service models along with developing and implementing best practices for budget and accounting services.

  • Directs and manages accounting, financial and budgeting functions for the Office of the President and other enterprise shared services, including but not limited to: Board of Trustees, Marketing and Communications and OneMUSC.

  • Creates enterprise-wide academic medical center investment model strategies.

  • Develops reports, analyzes and interprets financial data, models scenarios, calculates projections, evaluates data for trends and provides information to senior leadership to make strategic decisions for the enterprise.

  • Establishes proper budget procedures and methods, oversees the maintenance of these procedures and methods and ensures compliance with enterprise, state and federal policies and regulations.

  • Manages financial projects, programs and initiatives that support the Office of the President and other enterprise shared services departments.

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of practices related to financial reporting, cash management, resource allocation, trends, capital project administration, leases, enterprise policies and procedures, federal and state rules and regulations.

  • Advises senior-level management of changes to shared services allocation models and their budgetary impact.

  • Oversees monthly reconciliation of budget and interim financial statement data and prepares comments for monthly review.

  • Establishes, maintains and supervises the use of an extensive internal chart of accounts.

  • Manages commitments from all sources of funding and distributes funds in a timely manner.

  • Participates and advises during the preparation of department budgets. Provides advice and assistance to senior leadership, department heads and managers in analyzing and interpreting financial data and reports.

  • Provides financial transparency to senior-level leaders to promote the integration of academic and financial decisions.

  • Works closely with enterprise CFOs to coordinate shared services drivers, allocations and methodologies.

  • Completes special projects as needed.

Preferred Requirements:

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Finance or other similar area of study and a minimum of three years or greater of related professional experience required.

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree with multiple accounting courses and seven years of experience directing accounting, auditing, banking, or finance functions. Some positions may require certification as a Certified Professional Accountant.
