We are looking for a Director of Shared Service who is a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach, capable of navigating complex integration (resulting from acquisitions) organizational structures and driving change in a growth orientated environment. This key leadership role will bring the perfect mix of accounting knowledge with a keen focus on people and process. The Director will drive efficiency, standardization, and best practices across the Shared Services team.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and an in-depth understanding of shared services best practices. Candidates will have a proven track record of successfully leading and managing a large team at the corporate headquarter that services business units throughout the United States. Additionally, excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential for effectively partnering with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Reporting to the Director of Shared Services is a staff of approximately 20 team members.
- Oversees, supports, and develops shared services accounting team while driving efficiency & automation to keep up with the demands of a fast-paced high growth (through acquisitions) business.
- Manages the accounting for areas including general ledger, accruals, including detailed analysis and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts.
- Develops and implements strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of shared services operations.
- Leads and manages a team of professionals within the shared services department, providing guidance and support to ensure the achievement of department goals.
- Collaborates with key stakeholders to define and establish service level agreements and performance metrics for shared services functions.
- Identifies and implements process improvements to streamline shared services processes and enhance overall operational efficiency.
- Oversees the development and implementation of key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure service quality and efficiency.
- Ensures compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies within the shared services department.
- Provides regular reports and updates to senior management on the performance of shared services functions.
- Evaluates, develops, and improves department controls, systems, and procedures that increase accuracy and efficiency.
- Creates and maintains comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all shared services operations.
- Leads hiring initiatives, develop training programs, and provide ongoing coaching to team members.
- Builds, retains, and motivates a high-performing team of employees.
- Fosters a culture of exceptional customer service within the shared services organization.
- Implements accountability measures and performance management processes.
- Leads in identifying training needs of the accounting staff and developing training programs to ensure minimal ramp up time and continual development.
- Addresses employee performance issues and concerns professionally to maximize employee performance and satisfaction.
- Actively works to improve and maintain employee engagement and morale to increase retention and productivity.
- Provides financial analysis and recommendations as requested.
- Manages various tax and compliance activities including sales and property tax audits.
- Supports the Corporate Controller in other related duties as necessary or assigned.
- 7 or more years of progressive experience required, preferably with some experience in distribution, production, or construction.
- Previous experience managing a department of at least 10 individuals in a shared services leadership role.
- Proven track record with creating and implementing standard operating procedures, particularly post-acquisition.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory principles and requirements.
- Excitement around navigating a hyper-growth, rapidly changing, and sometimes ambiguous environment and multiple processes due to acquisitions that must be harmonized over time.
- Superb ability to establish rapport and gain the trust of others; effective at gaining consensus with the team.
- Must be customer service oriented, have the ability to adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with ability to communicate the vision, hold others. accountable and create a work environment that motivates others to excel.
- Ability to think strategically while still willing to roll up their sleeves to perform work and develop actionable plans.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional math skills, proficiency with computers, MS Office (advanced Excel skills).
- Experience with ERP systems and financial software; familiarity with Epicor Eclipse preferred.
- Attention to detail and the ability to analyze large amounts of data.
- Ability to pass background checks where required.
