The Vice President, Accounting Services (“VP”) will lead the accounting service organization in the region and be the senior financial leader representing the region in client accounting operations and accounting systems governance across the entire South Region organization. The region accounting services organization is comprised of over 150 associates delivering accounting services to over 1,600 community associations in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. The region has total revenues of over $500M and has a fiduciary duty to manage and provide financial reporting for over $3 Billion in client association budgets.

The ideal candidate will have experience in building and leading a customer-focused client accounting organization with a strong culture of performance and accountability. The Vice President will be a member of the regional financial leadership team and will be supported and will work cross functionally with other shared service leaders such as marketing, HR and IT. The ideal candidate will have strong financial acumen in context of both transactional efficiency and accurate financial reporting, a client-focused approach as required to deliver exceptional service, and a confidence born from deep accounting and financial accounting expertise as needed to clearly and comfortably present to key internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding manager of people and processes with a proven track record in process improvement, performance optimization, change management, service delivery, and talent development. The ideal candidate will have experience working in residential property management, timeshare, hospitality, commercial real estate, facilities management, or other service-based industries featuring high volume financial transactions.

  • Provide executive leadership and strategic direction of the accounting services organization as needed to deliver exceptional services to our property management teams and managed associations.
  • Lead and mentor team to build on our service culture and results-based accountability for performance.
  • Attract, retain and develop high performers within the organization.
  • Collaborate and innovate with property management teams and resident clients to develop new and/or improve existing products, solutions, and related experiences.
  • Develop and execute strategies to improve service delivery of financial products and/or solutions including monthly financial statements, collection of homeowner payments, and facilitation of bill payments to vendors.
  • Ensure communication processes are in place to actively manage a growing service organization and continuously engage with associates.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls are in place, operating standards are met, and financial reporting accuracy is achieved on behalf of associations.
  • Work with internal IT leaders and external vendors in order to ensure optimal deployment of enabling technologies as needed to efficiently and effectively deliver the accounting and financial services.
  • Responsible for annual business plan for organization – driving financial performance to achieve targeted performance and execution of initiatives as committed to in the business plan.
  • Actively promote and represent FirstService Residential in the marketplace to build our reputation as a financial services provider with the broader community, accounting professionals and vendors serving our industry.
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior financial management and executive leadership experience. Preferably within residential property management, timeshare, hospitality, commercial real estate, facilities management, or other service-based industries featuring high volume financial transactions.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience leading a sizable, client-focused financial services organization.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in accounting for real-estate capital projects, special assessments and capital planning.
  • Must have proven experience in the development of and performance management of highly successful teams, with at least 5-8 direct reports for 10 or more years.
  • Proven success in delivering full-cycle financial reporting across a multi-location business including associate training and team engagement/development.
  • Proven track record in the development and execution of change management initiatives with a focus on service delivery, process improvement and new system implementations.
  • Experience in financial controls, financial audits and implementation of control improvements.
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing a P&L and the drivers of profitable service delivery.
  • Creation and execution of an annual business plan (including financial plan “budget”).
  • Strong financial acumen, business judgement and comfort-level with detailed financial analyses.
  • MBA and/or graduate level degree
  • Professional accounting and/or financial qualifications and designations (CPA preferred)
  • Excellent leadership communications including both presentations and written skills.
